Coaching Course Testimonies

ARE YOU interested in attending a course?

If so, you may be interested in reading the experiences of previous candidates.

Phil Enderby shares his experience below:

'I became a qualified FA coach back in 1986 & coached through to the early part of the 1990’s, but due to a variety of reasons I stopped coaching football & turned my attention to cricket & became a qualified coach with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

In the summer of 2015 my two sons took up mini soccer & I was approached to see if I would consider coaching their team. Having been disillusioned in the 1990’s with coaching methods, attitude of parents & the priority of physical attributes over technique & creativity, together with win at all costs mentality, I apprehensively took up the offer.

However, it was on the proviso that I would get up to date with qualifications & training. My sons had also joined a club with good values & ethos & the club were also very supportive towards my development.

I took my FA Level 1 course in May this year & was really impressed with the huge difference in attitude & approach from my previous experiences. I had fallen in love with the game again & have a real desire to coach again. Without doubt this was re-enforced with the professionalism of the FA course tutor, Jamie Godbold.

Jamie is a model professional with an excellent knowledge of the game & coaching. His personality & enthusiasm is infectious, he makes everyone feel relaxed & creates a positive learning environment.

Once I had successfully finished this course I wanted to learn more & continue on my development journey. I have attended various CPD events hosted by the Suffolk FA, mainly run by Jamie, they too have been excellent. Having attended a Suffolk FA futsal CPD event run by Andy Reynolds I was inspired to learn more about this game as I believe it has huge benefits to player development. I enrolled on a futsal level 1 course in November & again very impressed with the way in which Jamie ran this course – first class & inspirational.

I am now enrolled on the new FA Level 2 coaching course (end of block 1), run by Jamie & Andy & I have already booked onto blocks 2 & 3.

In the next two years I aim to achieve the FA Level 3 Award (UEFA B).

As coaches we aim to inspire young players & leave a lasting positive impression on them. Also as coaches we seek good role models & inspiration, both Jamie & Andy have already made a huge positive impression on me in a short space of time. I have enjoyed every session I have attended & learned so much from them both. I now have a real passion to coach again which is largely down to them.

I have been very impressed by what the FA is now delivering, where it wants to take the game & the support to coaches development. If Jamie & Andy are the bench mark of FA tutors then the game has a bright & exciting future & I want to play my part in it too.

Thank you for re-lighting my fire.

Adam Steggles shares his experience below:

My name is Adam Steggles and I have been on The FA level 1 course at Walshm-le-Willows over the last few weekends.

I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed the course and that has been largely down to the trio of tutors we have had – Andy Reynolds, Paul Neary and Pavel Guziejko.

Andy has been leading the course and has been excellent; his delivery of his considerable knowledge has been done in a friendly, matter-of-fact fashion and also done without any hint of ego.

He has been able to present ideas in an easy-to-understand fashion and with good evidence and examples to back most scenarios. He’s also been ably backed by Paul and Pavel who have helped back up and expand upon what we are learning.

I will take so much of this course forward with me and it is down to the three of them. You can have the greatest material with which to educate but if it isn’t delivered in the right fashion then it’s potentially going to get wasted.

I don’t want to sound too gushy, but it’s far too easy to complain in the modern world and I think it’s always good to give positive feedback when the opportunity arises.
