Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place. These are some of the outcomes achieved so far:
The programme has been around since 2008 and improvements are now being seen, with the number of referees increasing, the amount of discipline for dissent reducing and players saying they are now gaining more enjoyment from the game.
The programme provides a series of tools for leagues, clubs, coaches, referees, players and parents from grassroots to elite football to ensure a safe, positive environment in which to enjoy the game.
These tools include agreed codes of conduct, in-service training for referees, RESPECT club resources, spectator sideline barriers and ensuring captains work with referees to manage player behaviour.

Respect and Safeguarding Children
Creating fun, safe football environments is central to Respect.
Many children and young people have a fantastic experience through football - some don't. This may be down to aggressive or pushy coaches and parents screaming and shouting from the sidelines. Respect highlights that this behaviour is unacceptable. We need to help coaches and parents understand the effect this behaviour can have and share positive ways to motivate young players.
