Futsal is a key strand within the Suffolk FA Development Strategy.

Across the season, Suffolk FA will run Futsal leagues for youth, adult male and female football. Coaches will be supported with CPD and courses and the sport will be promoted over the next four years through various events across the county.

What is Futsal?

Futsal originated in the South American countries of Uruguay and Brazil where, in the 1930s, two versions of small-sided football were being played in the cities of Montevideo and Sao Paulo respectively.

In Brazil, a version began to develop on the streets of Sao Paulo, leading to the publishing of the first rules of the game in 1936 from the country that would soon become the masters of the game.

Games are played in a five-a-side format, in an indoor court with rules that make futsal fast-paced, dynamic and an exciting sport to participate in.

For Suffolk FA specific Futsal rules please see the document attached at the bottom of the page.

The FA have shown a commitment to creating a lasting history for Futsal in England by developing their own FA National Futsal league and competitions structures.

The FA Futsal Leagues comprise of three regional men’s competitions that provide six teams for the end-of-season play-offs to determine the national champions.
