Snow Sets Up Huge Cup Weekend

3:20 PM, Tuesday, 12 January 10. County Cups

A week of extreme winter weather saw all of last weekend's Suffolk FA County Cup matches postponed, meaning there are now ten different Cups being competed for this weekend!

This Saturday will see the Suffolk FA Senior Cup Quarter-Finals take centre stage after all four matches were postponed last week.

Woodbridge Athletic, Grundisburgh, Brantham Athletic, Team Bury, Coplestonians, Ransomes Sports, Lakenheath and Capel Plough are the eight teams left in the competition and are all still in with a chance of lifting the famous trophy. Elsewhere, with Haverhill Rovers already through to the Semi-Finals, the six remaining Suffolk FA Senior Reserve Cup Quarter-Finalists are in action on Saturday looking to join them.

Holders Lowestoft Town continue their defence away to Brandon Town and will go into the match as firm favorites. Meanwhile Ipswich Wanderers host Needham Market and Hadleigh United will entertain fellow Ridgeons League Premier Division club Mildenhall Town.

The highest placed SIL team left in the Suffolk FA Junior Cup Quarter Finals is Stonham Aspal. Stonham are second in the SIL First Division with a game in hand on leaders Saxmundham Sports. On Saturday they face a tough trip to fellow SIL Mendlesham who, although in mid-table, have games in hand on the leaders.

Essex & Suffolk Border League First Division high flyers Sudbury Athletic are arguably the favorites to win the Junior Cup. They have lost just once all season and can go top of the table if they win their games in hand. Standing between them and a Semi-Final spot is Hearts of Oak from the Lowestoft & District League First Division.

St Johns were playing Senior football last season but relegation has seen them drop down into the Junior Cup. However they are looking on course to reclaim their Senior status with promotion and in the last eight they will face Thurston.

The draw was kind to the two lowest placed teams in the competition, Trimley Red Devils and Bacton United 89, both from the SIL Second Division, as they drew each other. They now both have a fantastic opportunity of reaching the Final potentially to be played at Portman Road.

Also on Saturday is the Fourth Round of the Suffolk FA Primary Cup, with sixteen teams still in the hunt to claim the trophy. The SIL is the most represented League in the competition with twelve teams.

One of those twelve is last season's runners-up Salvation Army, who will be hoping to go one better this year and are still going strong in the competition. Next up for them is a tricky fixture against Benhall St Mary.

Sunday may be a day of rest but this weekend there are twenty four Quarter-Final matches in various competitions!

The Sportsguard Suffolk FA Sunday Cup is the top Sunday competition in the County and was won last season by Wortham Dolphin United.

Wortham are still in the mix to retain the crown and they face AFC Star 2009 in the Quarter-Finals. Also in with a chance of Cup glory is the top two in the Ipswich Licensed Trades League; Shotley Rose and GLC United. Leaders Shotley host MG Builders and GLC are also at home, they face Ipswich Thistle from the Ipswich Sunday Football League. The other fixture sees Mount Pleasant from the Haverhill area face Ipswich-based Capel Plough.

In the Suffolk FA Sunday Shield, Cherrytree, Factory Arms Old Boys, Alderton, AFC Chequers, Arrendene Athletic, The Cock Inn, Rickinghall and Trimley Rangers are all in with a chance of lifting the Shield and they make up this season's Quarter-Finals.

Rickinghall were winners of last season's Suffolk FA Sunday Trophy so have shown they have pedigree when it comes to cup competitions.

The third of the three Sunday Cups is the Suffolk FA Sunday Trophy. The Trophy is always highly competitive and this year has been no different.

The Ipswich Sunday Football League has the biggest contingent of teams left in the competition, boasting seven of the eight Quarter-Finalists. The only non-Ipswich team left in the Trophy is Great Barton, who will be hoping to do their area proud when they face HSF.

Switching to Sunday afternoon, and this weekend also sees the Quarter-Finals of the Suffolk FA Sunday Veterans Cup, which is now into it's second season.

Holders Kirkley & Pakefield have been handed a difficult trip away to Brantham Athletic whilst Kesgrave Athletic, who have the prolific Julian Beaumont in their side, entertain Wickham Market.

The other two ties are FC Fore Hamlet against Bungay Town and Lowestoft Railway & Corton against Stowupland Falcons.

From Veterans to Youth football, the Umbro Suffolk FA Boys Minor Cup Quarter-Finals also take place on Sunday.

Included in the strong looking line-up of eight is Woodbridge Town. Woodbridge have a strong history with the competition and having lost out in the Final last year, they will be desperate to lift the trophy this time around.

Finally, in the Norfolk & Suffolk FA Womens Cup Quarter-Finals, Suffolk has three representatives; Ipswich Town Women, Woodbridge Town Ladies and Whitton United Ladies.

Suffolk FA would like to wish everyone involved in this weekend's matches the best of luck!
