- Needham Market 1 - 0 Ipswich Town -
LB Group Suffolk FA Premier Cup - Semi-Final
Tuesday 24th March 2009
Venue: Needham Market Football Club
Cup favorites Ipswich Town named a young but strong side that included former and current First Team players Jaime Peters, Matt Richards and Dean Bowditch who was paired with England U17 hot prospect Connor Wickham up front.
Needham battled hard and rode their luck when Dean Bowditch missed a 12th minute penalty, but they held on and with Extra-Time looming, former Ipswich Town midfielder Kevin Horlock saw his free kick cleared out to centre back Richard Butler who rifled a 25 yard strike low into the bottom corner to send his team into the Final and the Needham fans into raptures!
- Bungay Town 3 - 4 Kirkley & Pakefield -
Suffolk FA Sunday Veterans Cup - Final
Sunday 19th April 2009
Venue: Beccles Town Football Club
This epic encounter between two local rivals saw Bungay take an early lead. Kirkley hit back with 3 goals and were cruising at 3-1 with only 20 minutes remaining. Bungay looked dead and buried but amazingly they struck two goals in quick succession to level the scores at 3-3 much to the delight of the crowd.
With everyone ready for the additional 30 minutes of extra-time, Kirkley's Simon Hall beat his man out on the wing and delivered a superb cross that Freddie Cable headed into the corner of the net to win the first ever Suffolk FA Sunday Veterans Cup Final for Kirkley, who went on to claim a remarkable League, League Cup and County Cup treble!
It was an extremely entertaining match that was played in great spirits and was a credit to Veterans Football.
- Achilles 5 - 2 Old Newton United AET -
Suffolk FA Junior Cup - Final
Wednesday 6th May 2009
Venue: Ipswich Town Football Club
The top two teams outside of Senior Football went head-to-head in one of the most open Cup Finals in recent memory. Adam Rickwood ran almost from the half-way line to round Martin Smith and score after five minutes to make it 1-0 to Old Newton.
Achilles equalised when Robert Buscys latched onto a through ball in the 36th minute. They then went in front when the speedy Liam Hillyard set up Adam Nuttall for a neat near-post 40th-minute finish to put Achilles ahead, only for Rickwood to get the better of a tussle with Gavin Allen and round Smith again for a Newton equaliser three minutes later to make it 2-2 at half-time.
The second half was goalless and it remained that way until the 8th minute of Extra-Time when substitute Perry Arthur crossed for Hillyard to score off a defender to make it 3-2. Old Newton went all out for an equaliser but were caught on the break when Arthur squared for Hillyard to add a fourth Achilles goal in the 117th minute.
Despite going down to 10 men with Jones injured, Achilles took advantage of some tired Newton legs to add a fifth at the start of stoppage time through Buscys to seal a first ever Suffolk FA Junior Cup triumph. Old Newton went home with the consolation of being promoted back to Senior Football having won the SIL First Division title.
- Drum & Monkey 8 - 8 Trinity AET -
(Drum & Monkey won 5 - 4 on penalties)
Suffolk FA Sunday Trophy - Round Two
Sunday 11th October 2009
Venue: Gainsborough Sports Centre, Ipswich
The scoreline says it all! 120 minutes and 16 goals could not separate these two evenly matched sides and it was left to the lottery of a penalty shootout which eventually saw the newly-formed Drum & Monkey, from Ipswich, claim a dramatic 5-4 win in their first season in County Cup football!
- Coplestonians 6 - 1 Stowmarket Town -
Suffolk FA Senior Cup - Round Two
Saturday 21st October 2009
Venue: Copleston High School, Ipswich
One of the most emphatic upsets from the last few seasons, SIL side Coplestonians went into the match against Stowmarket Town from Ridgeons League as firm underdogs. Stowmarket would have had realistic hopes of winning the competition but these were soon dashed as they were routed.
Danny Tatum, Craig Jennins and Nick Mark gave Coplestonians a well deserved 3-0 lead at Half-Time, and despite the visitors pulling a goal back through Graham, Cops were relentless and struck another three goals before the close with Bruce Rolls, Nathan Woolllard and Gianfranco Mallardo doing the damage to claim a famous win for the Ipswich-based side!
