Founded in 2004 the club has grown to achieve a team at every level of Girl’s football from under 10 all the way through to under 16. They are the only club in Suffolk to have achieved this feat and unlike most girls football teams are an exclusively girl’s club allowing them to focus purely on the advancement and development of girls football. In fact they are the only purely girl’s football club in the county and one of few in the UK.
Chairman Matthew Steward said, “We have built our club up from small beginnings to become one of the largest and best run clubs in girl’s football. We are delighted that this has been recognised with the award of Charter Standard Club Status by the FA.
“The award is a measure of our success and it gives parents the knowledge that Copleston Girls FC is a safe and progressive football club for them to involve their children in. We are a happy and successful club and the hard work of the coaches, team reps, volunteers and players has been acknowledged with this award.
Matthew continued, “Our objective is to give the girls get the best possible introduction into the world of football in a safe and fun environment from the age of 8 until they leave school.”
The Charter Standard is the best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League. A benchmark for quality, it improves the playing experience for all.
The award is designed to reward best practice, aid delivery across the club volunteer spectrum and educate coaches and club officials.
To achieve Charter Standard Club Status Copleston Girls FC met the strict FA criteria that included having a FA Child Protection Policy and a designated Child Welfare Officer who had attended FA Child Protection workshop & completed a FA CRB check. They also had to have qualified coaches for each youth team who have achieved at least FA Level 1 coaching and all volunteers needed to have completed an enhanced FA CRB check.
