Goalpost Safety Scheme

Extra funding is being made available by the Football Foundation in a bid to finally make ageing and rusty goalposts a thing of the past, announcing their nationwide plans to increase investment in new equipment and ensure the safety of all participants.

Up to £3,000 per application is now up for grabs according to a recent set of Foundation Guidance Notes which aim to maximise the impact of the Goalpost Safety Scheme and meet the demands of groups wishing to deliver grassroots football safely.

With immediate effect, new goalposts and replacement posts are both covered under the grant's terms and an extended range of goals are now available.

With examples of injuries or even death being caused by faulty equipment, specific areas have been targeted for investment, including:

  • Goals made before 1996 (when official British Standards were put in place)
  • Those with metal 'cup hooks'
  • Wooden or free-standing posts
  • Mini-soccer goals with parts missing
  • Rusty goalposts
  • Please note: Free standing training goals are not eligible

Applications are welcomed from Suffolk FA affiliated clubs, local authorities and schools although retrospective bids or those from professional clubs and their academies will not be considered.
